Below are just a few of the most common faults we come across and as you can see most can be prevented by care and attention.

  • Firstly Look after your laptop...It is not a toy!
  • Warning your laptop is powered by a  AC/Power adapter or the internal battery.
  • Depending on your Laptop the Ac adaptor can provide between 3 & 6 amps of current.
  • Any damage that results from faulty plugs on the adapter or loose connection on the laptop dc socket can result in some cases as rendering the laptop beyond economical repair.
  • Due to the above circumstances  we come across sockets that have melted and circuit boards that have burnt through.
  • So if you have the slightest doubt that the connection is not solid then get it checked over  before any permanent damage is done.
  • The cost of a replacement dc socket is aproximately £68.00...This can be compared to a total write off if left unattended. (This is the most common fault we come across) .
  • Second  Your laptop does not like liquids of any description..(Coffee,Orange juice,Wine or Beer)  The first to suffer will be your keyboard that will most likely require replacing..costs vary dramatically and can cost from £20.00 up to £80.00 depending on make & model.
  • If you are unlucky then the liquid can reach the power circuits or the main circuit boards. If this occurs do not leave the laptop (or continue using it if still operative) for any length of time as corrosion soon takes place.
  • Third   Broken screens are very common. Dropped laptops, leaving pens etc on the keyboard and closing the lid, and the obvious ones of giving it a poke or bending the display.  Cost of replacement between £120.00 & £180.00 .
  • The displays on most laptops are quite sturdy, but it is an electical component and should be treated with respect. cleaning kits are readily available ..It is amazing that some can still see through the grime that can build up. Do not pick the laptop up by the screen.
  • Four  Usb ports are not the sturdiest of components and we see lots of laptops with damaged usb sockets..some can be replaced quite easily while others may not be due to damage to the circuit boards..Average cost of replacement  £75.00.Take care when inserting & removing Usb devices & do not wiggle them!
  • Five  The screen on your laptop is held to the base by hinges..again we see lots of broken hinges due to misuse or being dropped...costs vary dramatically for these parts and can cost up to £60.00 for a set of hinges
  • As you can see most faults are man made and with care can be avoided!!
  • At a future date I will show some photos of the damage etc. caused by some of the above
